Joe #Paterno Seeks Out Defense Lawyer

Just a day after being fired from from his position of coach of the Penn State football team, Joe Paterno has reportedly reached out to a defense lawyer as the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal continues to embroil the PSU campus.

Paterno’s advisers contacted J. Hedgwick Sollers, who once represented George H.W. Bush in the Iran-Contra Affair in the late 1980s. Sollers is a managing partner in the Washington Office of the Atlanta-based law firm King & Spalding. Sollers declined to comment, while Paterno’s spokesman said that “no lawyer has been retained.”

Paterno is not facing any legal charges , as the investigation centers around Sandusky. But the longtime coach has received considerable criticism for not doing enough to report Sandusky’s alleged rape of a 10-year-old boy in the shower of the Penn State facilities back in 2002.

Paterno reportedly told university officials about the matter but failed to notify the police.

According to the NBC News report, Paterno is concerned about the possibility civil lawsuits by Sandusky’s alleged victims and their families.
